Road Trip
Eighteen states, two countries, over 4,600 miles, one ‘88 Buick Century, two parents, one often-smiling six-month-old. Why the whirlwind tour of craziness? Unlike other summers where we might staff a summer missions project or serve our staff on the conference team, this summer we are focusing on finding new partners to fund our ministry. (We will also be attending the U.S. Staff Conference in Ft. Collins, Colorado in July.) So far, we have completed about 1,200 miles of our journey, stopping to visit family and a church partner in Pennsylvania before arriving safely in Grand Island, NY (near Buffalo). While in the area, we hope to meet many current supporters as well as finding new people God will lead to partner with us. Later this month we will cross through Ontario, Canada, to get to Heather’s hometown of Jackson, Michigan. Mikayla has been a wonderful traveler thus far, and has been charming everyone she meets with her smile. Please pray for our time to be fruitful, and continued traveling mercies.
The Sandbox
Thousands of students will take part in Campus Crusade summer missions projects in resort locations around the U.S. and key cities around the world. One such summer project will take place right in Orlando, where students will work at our World Headquarters and be trained and discipled.
Students reaching others for Christ is a key part of our ministry’s vision. This summer, thirteen “student innovators” will be helping our team lay the foundation for the next generation of online evangelism. These designers, marketers, videographers, and programmers will be working together to share the gospel through a new web site. We call it a “sandbox” model, a place where we can try out new forms of multimedia content, new marketing strategies, and various interactive technologies. The site will be a place where students from across the country can come together and share the vision of reaching not only their campus, but every member of their generation through the internet. Many aspects of the site will rely on their creativity and ingenuity. Each will be invited to continue to work on the project beyond this summer as we open up this internet project to other students this fall.
This is online evangelism for students, by students. It will hopefully serve as a real-life laboratory for developing further ministry innovation. Please pray for our teammate Andy, as he oversees this project and the interns that will make it happen. We pray that God would use this site to help give the 100 million college students of the world a chance to hear about Him!
